MN Vacation - Part 4: Winsted Week 2

Our last week in Winsted (and MN) was a fun one!  We started by piling into Grandpa's boat for a fishing expedition on Lake Mary.  Hannah was ecstatic when she caught her first fish - and was even brave enough to touch the squirming little thing before it got tossed back!  She and Andrew both caught several fish, while Michael had a blast trying to hang headfirst off the side of the boat  :)  The next day we piled into the van with Grandma Cindy and cousin Andrew, and drove up north for some quality time with Great Grandma Donna in Two Harbors and some super fun waterpark time in Duluth.  The kids thought that having a waterpark just down the hall from our hotel room was great  :)  All 3 showed a love of waterslides that rivals my own!  Hannah was a little wary at first, but once she got going there was no stopping her - not even when the gigantic bucket of water emptied over the whole kiddie area!  Michael got a big grin on his face anytime we got near the top of a slide, and left Grandma and Mommy more assured than ever that he was a bit of a thrill seeker  :)  In Two Harbors, we visited with Great Grandma and watched a boat come in - - the kids loved seeing the boat, although they were a little upset that the horn didn't blow!  Andrew and Hannah also had fun chasing seagulls and jumping over seagull poop in the grass (no easy feat in that particular stretch of beach. . . .), and their catchphrase for the next 3 weeks was "sea-gull poop" - one would say it, and they would both melt into gails of laughter!!  It was hilarious the first few times. . . . . .  We had a chance to see another boat coming in while we were in Duluth, which meant that the kids got to see the big lift bridge going up and down  :)  Then, after feeding the seagulls their french fries, they explored the Canal Park museum before it was time to head back to Winsted.  After a couple of quiet days of recovering, the kids and I drove out to see Alisson and Jeff, and their puppy Maisy.  We had fun at the park and enjoyed having dinner and visiting before it was bedtime.  That weekend was the annual Fourth of July celebration in Delano, and Manda and I took the kids to the carnival for an afternoon of rides and carnival food (mmm - porkchops on a stick!!)  Hannah and Andrew raced from one ride to another, and went through the funhouses repeatedly!!  Michael went on one ride with Mommy, but it was so steamy hot that he really didn't care about anything but staying cool - and the rides were not the thrill for him that they were for the big kids  :)  The next day we went back to Delano for the parade.  All 3 kids collected candy - although Michael's strategy was different from the others' - he made friends with the people sitting next to him, and somehow convinced them to give him their goodies. . . . .   :) Hannah waved to all the princesses, including daughter of our family friend - Amber, the new Miss Howard Lake!  The bands and drumlines were also a big hit :)  After the parade it was time to go back to Winsted and start packing up - - the next day Daddy arrived back in MN so that Mommy, Daddy, Hannah, Michael, Manda, and Andrew could all load into the van for a trip back to WA - - let the roadtripping adventures start again!!  :)
Gearing up for an afternoon on the water - Hannah "helped" Grandpa Mark work on his new boat all week, and was thrilled that it was finally going in the water!

Andrew was really hoping that he would catch a "keeper"
Michael - the calm before the storm!  It didn't take long before he realized that we were surrounded by water that he HAD to see up close  :)
Hannah's first fish!!!!!
Grandpa may have been steering, but Michael was sure that HE was directing!
Grandma keeping an eye on Hannah's line - Hannah was SO proud of herself for catching fish!

Michael - didn't mind the ride, but certainly wasn't excited by it either.
Hannah, on the other hand, LOVED the rides!
And she especially loved sharing a bag of cotton candy with Andrew - her first time having it, and she thought it was "just so yummy, Mommy"
My band!!!  The DC Marching Chargers were looking good at the parade!
Chopsticks - always entertaining!
Michael made himself comfortable and enjoyed the view while savoring a freezie.
Princess Amber - - I still think of her as a little girl dancing at our wedding. . . . .

MN Vacation - Part 3: Winsted Week 1

After saying goodbye to Daddy, Mommy and the kids met up with Auntie Mel and Great Grandma Donna for lunch before heading to Winsted.  It was our job to keep Grandma entertained for the evening and then get her to her surprise birthday party the next afternoon, all dolled up, without suspecting anything.  We were up to the challenge, and she was properly surprised the next day!!  :)  The party was fun, but I expected nothing less with the whole bunch of us together again  :) The next day was Father's day, and since Matt had to be in WA, and my own stepdad was moving Grandma Donna up to her summer retreat in Two Harbors, my sister and I took our 3 kids to have dinner with Aunties Gavi, Melissa, and Cassie, who were also without a dad that day.  The rest of the week passed by in a restful blur of relaxing days playing outside with the new baby kitties and working in the garden at my parent's house.  Our good friends Alisson and Jeff came by one afternoon, and we spent one afternoon visiting Cokato (including the park and, of course, Mommy's HS/college workplace - DQ).  The week ended with Auntie Manda babysitting for a morning while Mommy and Grandma Cindy went back in time at the Betsy and Tacy houses in Mankato (I have been in love with those books since I was little, and can't wait to introduce my own kids to them!!!).  That evening, Auntie Manda and Mommy took all 3 kids to Cambridge to celebrate with our little sister Gavriella - she's now a HS graduate and making big plans for her future!!  :)  And so ends our first week in Winsted.  Tune in later for week 2  :)

My mom and I touring Betsy's house - - the houses have been restored to what they would have looked like when Maud Hart Lovelace and her friend Bick lived in them in 1900.
The bench!!  Betsy and Tacy ate a lot of "picnic" suppers on this bench  :)
Tib's chocolate colored house is still in amazing condition and is lived in, with no current plans to add it to the Betsy-Tacy Society holdings.  We also drove around to a few other Maud Hart Lovelace sites in Mankato.
At Gavi's party -  Cole's wife Rose playing with Michael
Cassie with Cole and Rose's daughter Winter - Michael was very curious about this new baby!
. . . and so was Hannah  :)  She insisted on "petting" Winter
We're not often all together, but here is Amanda, Gavriella, Luis, Michael, me, and Andrew and Hannah in front.

Cassie, Cole, and Melissa :)  We had fun visiting and catching up!!!!

MN Roadtrip Part 2: Champlin and Winstock

We had a couple of days in Champlin visiting Grandpa Gehry and Grandma Jan before Mommy and Daddy took off for a few days of fun at Winstock (country music festival) and Grandma and Grandpa took the kids for a few days of fun baking cupcakes and visiting the zoo.  But the fun didn't stop at the weekend  :)  Mommy drove to St. Cloud one morning for a visit with good friend Melissa to see her new baby (Oliver - he's ADORABLE!!).  Daddy and Grandpa took the kids to an indoor playground for some fun slides while Grandma and Mommy went to a cardmaking class and out to lunch.  The whole family went to a playground for a picnic. And Great Grandpa Blake and Great Grandma Paula stopped by to visit and play.  At the end of the week, it was time to say goodbye to Daddy as he had to fly back to WA for work, and it was also time to say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa Sower as Mommy and the kids packed up and headed out to Winsted.
Matt and Tiff enjoying a drink in the Winstock campground - we stayed with Tiff's mom and stepdad and had a BLAST hanging out all weekend!!
Winstock = Mudstock!!  Thankfully, it only rained while we were sleeping, so no bands were interrupted.
The stage during the day - - I honestly don't know who played during the day - we were having too much fun visiting friends, visiting the booths, and even trying our muscles out doing pull-ups for the Marines!!
The evening performers were: Blackhawk, Sara Evans, Dierks Bentley, Josh Turner, Jake Owens, Phil Vassar, and Alan Jackson - they were amazing!!
